NameJet.com is a premium domain aftermarket running premium domain auctions. To be added to an auction, it's best to bid at the last minute if there are no other bidders. The closing time to bid is 8pm Pacific Standard Time (3am/4am Irish time, depending on the time of year).
The brief was to extract the closing date to be added to the auction and the number of bidders currently backordering the domain. It was then required to write a program that would place a backorder on a given domain at the last possible moment.
StackScientist.com wrote a program in Python that runs on our Linux Ubuntu Cloud webserver which we use regularly which identifies the domains with no bidders.
Liam then wrote another Python script which runs on the server and places a backorder with four seconds to spare before the backorder deadline. That would give other parties just three seconds to identify our bid and place their own backorder. All we have to do is upload a simple text file with a list of the domains to the server.
